- GAf
- Ownes Corning
- Certainteed
- Eagle

Choosing a good manufacture is important but, choosing the right roofing contractor is probably the most important. The best materials installed incorrectly will leak. But, a good contractor can use any of the manufactures stated above and make a beautiful roof that will last as long as it should without leaks.
How to Hire a Roofing Contractor
I think it's safe to say that most of us know when picking a contractor that we have to meet with them and feel like we could work together. This is very important. But, there are a few other things you can do before you meet with anyone. I would suggest doing a little homework and the below list is a good place to start
- Do a license status check with the CSLB
- If you like good customer service make sure they have a receptionist
- See if they advertise that they have "General Liability" Insurance
- Check online reviews but, don't rely on this alone, see above list
- Make sure the Contractor passes this short list before calling or emailing
The above list is short and will help remove some of the contractors from your list. You will be surprised that even ones that appear to be top notch can pass the above check list.
What does a License Status Check do for You
Simply Google "CSLB License Status Check" and you will get a link that takes you directly to a page on the Contract's State License Board's website that lets you input a license number of any contractor licensed in the state of California. But, you need to first have the license number. The "CSLB" state that a Contractor's license number must be used in all advertisements. This means every website should feature the license number. If you cannot find a license number for a contractor it means either he doesn't have one or the contractor doesn't feel it is important to follow the rules. Either of those would get you crossed off my list.
If you can find the license number of the contractor you want check just type it into the box provided and click enter. You will get a thorough check of all of the contractor's information. You can check to see:
- If the license is valid
- If the Worker's Compensation is registered and not expired
- If the license bond is registered and valid
- If the personnel listed on the license is the same people you are planning on meeting with
- When the license was actually issued and who it was issued to
Using the above information to cross reference the contractor's website is a simple and smart way to make sure the contractor is following all the rules he is supposed to. Finding problems with the verification process is a red flag for me and I move on to another.
For the other items on our check list such as if they have a receptionist or General Liability insurance. For me, I notice that when a contractor has a receptionist it shows me that they are dedicated to the business and customer service and not penny pinching trying to do everything themselves.
Does your Roofer need General Liability Insurance
You may be surprised to hear this but, Legally, no they don't. The State of California does not require contractor's to have General Liability Insurance. I have no idea why and for me it's a must have and here's why
The most important thing a General Liability policy does is protect the Contractor. I bet you thought I would say protect the home owner. It does protect he home owner but, it also protects the contractor. If the Contractor takes a lot of pride in his business he will protect himself from frivolous lawsuits with a General Liability Insurance Policy. Having this policy shows you just how much a contractor care about protecting and his business and is a very smart idea. I like choosing smart contractors and this is maybe the easiest to see if they are smart enough to work on my home.
If you want to cut straight to the chase you can with us. We have General Liability Policy, our license number is 737515 so you can easily check on us. We have a receptionist and we care deeply about customer service and providing you with a good experience. And, we have quite a few excellent reviews that are easy to find
